lyrics

Daddy can we throw the ball, it's such a pretty day,
The sun shined once or twice, and dried up most the rain,
I can wear my old shoes, and I won't get in the mud,
And if you throw a ball I miss, I won't even fuss.

Baseball with a 6 year old,  brand new gloves and an old Braves cap,
Lean in, take a step, and look at what you're throwing at,
The old dogwood is 2nd base,
And a plastic tile is a good home plate,
The crowd goes wild with every catch we make...
Can't think of a better way to waste the day.

Daddy can you get your glove, and pitch me just a few,
I know you got stuff to do, but it'll be dark soon,
I want to practice hitting, this hole in the yard can be home plate,
Let me line my feet up, I'm gonna hit it over the driveway,

Baseball with an 8 year old, brand new glove and an old Braves hat,
Swing level, bend your knees, and hold tight to the bat,
The old dogwood fell last spring,
and he broke the tile lining up to swing,
The crowd goes wild with every hit he makes...
Can't think of a better way to waste a day.

I hope he always remembers, to keep his eye on the ball,
And to stand up right when he's up there at the plate,
It's OK to drop a hit, just pick it up and get it in,
And it doesnt matter the game, it's how you play...
Win or lose you always play the right way...

Daddy can we play catch, I wanna pitch this year,
I like playing 3rd base, or maybe I can get some catcher's gear,
I know it doesn't matter, as long as I keep trying,
But what if I hit a grand slam, and knock all my friends in.

Baseball with a 9 year old, beat up gloves and a new Cubs hat,
Stay in there and go down swinging, whenever you strike out,
Just give your best and never let 'em
get inside your head
The crowd don't matter, you're out there to play,
Stay focused and think about every single move you make,
And know I'm  proud of every swing you take,
I hope I never miss a second of the game.
