about
Cynical commentary about the colossal collapse of country music
lyrics
When LA ran out of money, the slingers had to find a new home,
So they followed a Mutt back east, just past the birthplace of Rock& Roll,
And they brought their chops and arsenals, started singing bout trucks & beer,
And everybody loved ‘em, wanted to endorse ‘em, from J. Daniels to a big green Deere,
And Papa had to cover his ears, and Mama had to turn it down,
And even though the kids couldn’t understand the words, they all sang along anyhow….
They all sang along anyhow… ( “Mama, I’m going out on my tractor this Friday night!”)
While papa sings
“I love country music, Oh, I love country music”
“Yes, I love country music, but I don''t even know what that is.”
Now they took their hooks from hip hop, and the beat from an old Queen song,
Added some hard guitars, and pretty boys to scream along,
Topped it off with some fiddles, that played like a devil’s bet,
But they ain’t done nothing, even close to touching, what Merle or Possum did,
And Papa had to cover his ears, and Mama had to turn it down,
Takes more than a little, banjo and a fiddle, to make a song a country song…
Hear papa sing, "I love country music..."
Now take the rhinestones off a sport coat, and glue ‘em on my old blue jeans,
My Stetson don’t have room for a logo, give me a ball cap and tee,
Gonna write a song about my hot little girl, and how we love to fish and hunt,
When I drive a Mercedes, and live in the city, and never even fired a gun.
So papa better cover his ears, and mama go on turn it down,
If I don’t do nothing, gonna make us fortune, off another line dancing, liquor guzzling, sappy, crappy, poppy, “I love, you girl, get in my truck, let’s go down to the river and SCREEWWWWW….
Off the cap of another cold beer….” country song.
And papa cries… “I love country music…”
